Champaign Public Library

At 10 a.m. Tuesday at the main library, Mary Terese Campbell and Liz Stine-Morrow will present their findings about adult literacy, based on research at the UI Adult Learning Lab. Their research incorporates eye-tracking and EEG results. The program is part of Tuesdays at Ten, a series designed to give insight into innovations developed in Champaign-Urbana.
Two book discussion groups meet monthly: At 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Douglass Branch, join the Table Talk Book Club to talk about works by contemporary African-American writers. This month's selection is "The Ultimate Betrayal" by Kimberla Lawson Roby. At 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the main library, Cover-to-Cover Book Group members will gather to discuss Daniel James Brown's "The Boys in the Boat."

Urbana Free Library

From 3:45 to 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Satterthwaite Conference Room, kids in grades 3 to 6 are invited to Write On! NaNoWriMo, a writing workshop. We'll pen stories and play writing games. Bring a favorite book or two. To register, call 217-367-4069.
From 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the Jean Evans Archives Room, learn about local, state, national and international records available to family historians during Beginning Genealogy Research Workshop: Working with Sources. From 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, attend "Star Wars" Night. This after-hours, family friendly event will feature trivia, a scavenger hunt, photo ops, snacks, music, crafts and more. Come in costume. This event is sponsored by Peggy and Bob Podlasek in memory of Greg Bliss.

Danville Public Library

On Monday, this month's installment of A Closer Look will focus on food allergies — prevention, treatment, accommodations and more. Refreshments will be served at 5 p.m., and a documentary will be screened at 6 p.m. A panel discussion will follow.

From 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, those 60 and older are invited to a new program, It's Coffee Time. In the first-floor meeting room, enjoy a sociable hour of conversation and hot coffee or tea.
Library workers and volunteers will read stories from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. next Sunday during the Festival of Trees at the David S. Palmer Arena. At the bottom of the book tree, they will read "Bear Snores On" by Karma Wilson and Jane Chapman. Each family will receive a book donated by the Danville Library Foundation and bookmarks provided by the Vermilion Valley Reading Council.
From 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, stories will be read in the children's department prior to the Night of Lights Parade.
