The Fairfield Public Library is pleased to announce that it has received a $7,500 Curiosity Creates grant from the Association for Library Services to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association, to support creativity programming.
One of 79 libraries to receive this grant from an applicant pool of over 400, this grant is made available to the ALSC through a generous donation from Disney.
This grant encourages libraries to promote exploration and discovery for children ages 6 to 14 and may be used to develop and implement new creativity programming and/or to expand existing programs to reach even more children.
At the Fairfield Public Library this grant will be used to expand our annual Star Wars Reads Day, scheduled in December this year in conjunction with the release of the latest Star Wars movie.
“Children are naturally curious and the act of creating is vital to their development, so ALSC is particularly grateful to Disney and especially excited to offer this incredible opportunity to support our members’ work in public libraries, where families can engage their creativity unlike anyplace else in the community,” ALSC president Andrew Medlar said in a statement.
Star Wars devotees of all ages will be inspired and delighted by the creative and imaginative experiences they will discover at the Library at the fourth annual Star Wars Reads Day on December 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Save the date!
More than 400 patrons participated last year at this family friendly day for Star Wars fans of all ages. Activities will include lightsaber training from Kempo Academy of Martial Arts, creating Terrestrial Terrariums, a Wookie sound-alike contest, a bb8 android maze, crafts, snacks, story time, and much more.
